Winter Engagement Photo Inspiration

When it came to Engagement photos, I didn’t necessarily set out thinking I wanted outdoor winter themed photos—it more so happened because we were running out of time to send out save-the-dates for our July 2014 wedding and the pressure was on to get the dang pictures done!

This is the photo we ended up using for our save the date magnets

Our Engagement photos came in our photography package when we booked our photographers for our wedding (sadly the company is no longer running so I can’t tag them). At the time, my fiancé  (now husband) had a ridiculous work schedule, so finding a common weekend where we could both travel up to Vermont (where our wedding would take place) was easier said than done. We had the photographers lined up as one of our first big wedding decisions but we totally procrastinated on getting engagement photos scheduled. While a beautiful fall foliage setting in Vermont would have been stunning, I AM SO HAPPY WITH THESE WINTER PHOTOS!

I remember driving up incredibly late on a Friday night/Saturday morning after Bruno got out of work. It was likely 3am or so when we arrived to my mom’s house, as that was our normal back then with his schedule. Our photos were on a Saturday and all week long the forecast was supposed to be clear and not too terribly cold for photos. There was snow already on the ground so I thought that would be pretty with our winter coats. Our photo shoot was to happen around lunch time and I remember going to a salon with my mom to get my hair blow dried and curled that morning. I absolutely loved the way it turned out, but when it came time to start our photo shoot, the skies opened and snow started falling–quickly wetting my beautifully blow dried hair. It wasn’t the soft barely-notice-it’s there-snow. It was the wet and heavy type of snowfall. We did our best to hide our lack of sleep and cold bodies but as you can see in some of these photos–we got soaked! It just so happened that one of our contracted photographers was unavailable, so they scheduled the amazing Jaclyn Schmitz Photography to help out and we absolutely love her! She is no longer in Vermont, but assists with photography in Indiana.

We took photos on Church Street in Burlington, Vermont—it’s fun to see the contrast between our snowy engagement photos and summer wedding where we returned to this street for photos on our wedding day.

My biggest advice for engagement photos would be to plan your outfits ahead of time (the blue dress was a last minute panic to find) and to have fun with your partner. We will treasure these photos and the cold memories for years to come! Hope they help with some winter engagement photo inspiration!

Please feel free to pin any of these photos for inspiration!
